About

Hi, I’m Alison.

I’ve been crocheting for a very, very long time. Back when I was 4, my mother was desperately looking for something to keep me out of her hair, and she had a neighbor teach me to crochet. I picked it back up again when I was fourteen or so. I spent the next few years covering anything that didn’t move with an afghan. Afghans are still my first love, it’s just that I’ve run out of people to make them for.

In 2004, I started Pepperberry Crochet after bringing a few scarves and octopi to a craft fair I was at selling Christmas ornaments. The scarves were a much bigger hit, and I haven’t looked back since. I’ve really enjoyed taking a traditional craft and working with it in nontraditional ways.

In March of ‘06, I started to work on designing items. I had always designed all of my own patterns for my stuffed animals, but it wasn’t until then that I began making patterns for others, mainly because I became tired of crocheting Sundae Hats. ;)

Now, I design for my own website and for Crochet Today Magazine. I’m also doing seasonal free patterns on my website. The best part about designing items for my own site is that I can tackle the kinds of large design projects that really aren’t feasible as an item for sale–such as large pillows and afghans. As you can probably tell from looking at my patterns, my designs for Crochet Today are much more conservative than the patterns I sell. Maybe someday mainstream crocheters will be interested in anatomical hearts, and when they are, I’ll be there waiting.

My home site is pepperberry.typepad.com. I'm a huuuge fan of Ravelry, and you can find me over there, my user name is Pepperberry.
