Pey's Profile

About

I'm a self taught artist, and I do most of my portraiture styled work on clay based paintings, the smaller clay works are then framed with reclaimed antique wood surfaces.

Always fascinated by textures and wanted to translate that to my paintings, I experimented with different materials and eventually settled on ordinary clay as my painting/carving surface, onto which thin layers of Acrylic colours were applied, thus creating my very own type of textured paintings.

My portraitures of the animate and the inanimate are inspired and influenced by my love of animals, my everyday surroundings, my garden and my husband's endless country antiques collection - especially chairs.

Prone to optimism and unrestrained by nature, I hopes to inject a sense of lightness to all my creations to relieve…

Prone to optimism and unrestrained by nature, I hopes to inject a sense of lightness to all my creations to relieve and offset the too frequent seriousness in our everyday lives.

I now paint and play happily at my Parkdale home in Toronto with my gentle but slightly paranoid Rottweiler Benjamin and Miss Becki, Ben's younger half sister, a robust and wild Sibi Bunny and the great game hunter Mimi Cat at my side.

I also collaborate with my husband Anatol on assemblage work. The assemblage pieces are available at - http://www.etsy.com/shop/foundARTvision
I choose from odd bits of memorabilia and found objects in my surrounds or create pieces out of clay to complement and visually focus the reclaimed wood surfaces. Creating an assemblage piece is like solving a mystery to me.

A finished piece almost never matches my original vision for it, but reveals itself as it unfolds. My hope is to create something that appears effortless but not commonplace.
