My most favourite thing of all is to have hours of unstructured time with no responsibility. In these times I feel most creative, pondering old folk patterns, reading up on seed saving and successive planting, knitting or spinning with girlfriends, cutting up old embroidered table linens and felted sweaters, reading up on art therapy for my classes, baking bread and learning to play classical guitar.
In my designs I reconstruct garments paying close attention to the existing details from previous tailoringand using as many of these components as possible. They are elements that inspire my creativity. Sometimes an entire piece will start from a single strip of old-fashioned buttons, or a hand embroidered edging. Hand-work and vintage techniques have special appeal to me since nobody seems to have the time to do these anymore. I incorporate these into my patterns because I believe that it…
