Piedras del Cardenal: rough translation, Red-bird Rocks! (and you can take that as a noun or as an action verb ... )

I got my start in jewelry-making, in one sense, when I inherited my aunt’s and uncle’s rockhound and lapidary equipment. As they had started a business called Piedras, it seemed only right I should make that name mine. The farm where I lived then was named Red-bird Ridge for the numerous cardinals. So, Piedras del Cardenal.

In another sense, I got my start in jewelry and other crafts decades earlier, working with my architect mother, who made for herself virtually every item she wanted, with superb craftmanship and attention to detail.

Enameled copper, coffee tables, clothing (all my clothes!), planters, light fixtures ... my output is boringly similar compared to hers.

Besides jewelry, I cook, I garden, I read a lot, I do origami, I walk in the woods and take photographs. I do volunteer nature conservation work for the community, and I spend a lot of time enjoying my new kittens. In my “day job” I manage and try to keep in good repair the rental apartments in my century-old house.

I sporadically blog about my jewelry and other craft adventures at http://amm.blogspot.com, and set down observations related to natural history at http;//naturalist-amm.blogspot.com.
