About

Hello, everyone and welcome to Aquavert!

WHO IS AQUAVERT?
My name is Bianca and this Etsy shop is an expression of the entrepreneurial spirit that always seems to keep popping up inside me! From painting to sewing, to knitting and drawing. I am in love with all things DIY. I earned my Associate's Degree in 2008 and am currently working towards my Bachelor's Degree in Textile Design. My passtimes include drinking tea and playing with my iPhone!

A big part of who and what I do is very much tied to growing up all up and down the West coast; my heart is divided a little all over the place! Same with my hobbies-- I have too many to count! ...but I actually don't see that as a bad quality!

WHERE'D YOU GET THAT (GREAT) IDEA?…

Hello, everyone and welcome to Aquavert!

WHO IS AQUAVERT?
My name is Bianca and this Etsy shop is an expression of the entrepreneurial spirit that always seems to keep popping up inside me! From painting to sewing, to knitting and drawing. I am in love with all things DIY. I earned my Associate's Degree in 2008 and am currently working towards my Bachelor's Degree in Textile Design. WHERE'D YOU GET THAT (GREAT) IDEA?
Inspiration for Aquavert is tied to the deep seated kinship I feel with imagery of smoky cafes from the 1800s. I've always felt a comforting embrace when thinking of paintings like Van Gogh's "Cafe Terrace at Night" and Toulouse-Lautrec's "At the Moulin Rouge". Besides the amazing colors of such paintings, the atmosphere of socializing at night with a delicious drink and crisp air is something that has always intrigued me! Our current 2000s have made fancy cups uncool, replacing them with white paper cups that are bland and plain and dull... why not make them more interesting and colorfull like Van Gogh and Toulouse-Lautrec may have done? Even a small pretty touch is better than no inspired touch at all!

I make fabric coffee sleeves for a couple reasons. The practicality of having a coffee sleeve doesn't have to be a bland and boring experience. The sleeve also doesn't have to be wasteful to the environment, which sees millions of these tossed into landfills! Its hard to imagine 16 BILLION disposable coffee cups being dumped into a pit in the ground every year... all surrounded with little cardboard sleeves that are useful for the 10 minutes the drink is just a tiny bit too hot. Let's be real here: that stinks!

SO WHAT DO YOU ACTUALLY MAKE?
I carry the standard cup sleeve, made to use with the standard coffee shop paper cup. As I experiment and find more beautiful and amazing fabrics, I'll be expanding the varieties of sleeves available so everyone can find one that they adore.

My current process for sleeves is a tricky one, because it all comes down to the details! Sourcing the right fabric for my purpose is the most time consuming. Who will love this fabric? Who won't? Will it fade in the wash? A sleeve may take me anywhere from 10 minutes to half an hour to make, depending on whether or not I've screwed up in my measurements somewhere-- and I can't help it, it happens every once in a while! I do my best to make each one to the best of my ability, with care and attention, and am definitely not above taking the time to remake a sleeve.

Most of the sleeves (unless otherwise stated!), I use a cotton plain weave fabric with a polyester felt core. Future plans for Aquavert include locating more eco-friendly fabrics for sleeves include to include wool felt cores and fabrics dyed with natural pigments.

WHY DO I WANT YOUR COFFEE SLEEVES, NOT THEIRS?
My sleeves are different than others here on Etsy due to my background in color and design- as well as the environmental awareness of what I hope my sleeves can raise. I have an eye for color and pattern and know what works and doesn't work together. I also take a look at the most common cup designs and try to find something that will make that disposable cup YOURS. One "flavor" or fabric pattern doesn't fit all!

Due to the nature of the items I sell, I also make it a point to donate money to charities that are dedicated to repopulating forests devastated in recent years-- whether by fire or logging. One dollar from each sleeve sold will be put aside to be donated in a lump fund to charity, quarterly.

GIFT SERVICES: I offer couple different choices for gift services.

If you'd like me to ship your sleeve to a different address than your own, I can definitely do that. Please place the shipping address in the notes, making sure to specify that this is a gift. If the sleeve is sent as a gift, I will send you a .pdf of the receipt.

If you'd like to attach a coffee shop gift card for a specific amount on an item that doesn't have a gift card all ready incorporated into the sales page, I can do that as well, depending on the coffee store. Options are Starbucks, Peet's, and Coffee Bean. Please specifiy which coffee shop and the amount you would like added in your order and you'll be charged for the sleeve, s&h, and gift card amount.

WHOLESALE: At this time, I do not currently wholesale my coffee sleeves.
