About

Most of my paintings, (including this one) are painted "en plein air". I enjoy the many challenges of painting outdoors. Unlike studio painting, there is a continuous change in the elements of light and shadow created by the passage of time, and how those relate to the landscape and impact the composition. When painting on location, the artist must work quickly to capture the mood and atmosphere before they change. Therefore, there is no time to create illustrative detail. It is all about massing, value and composition. This leaves the details to the viewer's imagination.
