The majority of my hand-embroidered beaded work is centered around sliced agates or other polished stones which I find not only beautiful but enchanting as well.
One of my male ancestors was an “agate polisher”, another, a “gem cutter”. Others were gold miners. On the female side, there were accomplished needle workers. So, I guess it could be said that I have “stones” and “stitches” in my blood and that I just can’t help my obsession. At least, that is what I tell people who ask why I do what I do.
I love to find a stone that “speaks to me” with its’ beauty and complexity. Then, using its’ colors as a guide and inspiration, I attempt to enhance (it that is even possible with Mother Natures’ glories) its’ colors and textures with seed beads both large and small. I prefer to use rough edge stones as a complement to the polished surface. I often add leather or beaded fringe and stone…

The end result is a uniquely individually brooch wonderfully suited to “shine” on a suit jacket, coat or at the neck of a favorite blouse. Add a pair of matching earrings and a beautiful “set” is created unlike any found anywhere else.
