Billie Bennett's Profile

About

Hi my name is Billie and I am a portrait artist. Let me tell you my story and how this happened.

I am the 4th of five children growing up in a small South Georgia town. From the time I was very young I could always remember portraits of my mother and father hanging in our home. At my grandfather’s house the same thing, hanging from the mantle was a portrait of him. My mother had portraits of all of us children painted when we were five to six years old. Therefore the portraits of my older sisters were in view from the moment I was born. When I was five it was my turn to join my sisters and then before long my younger brother joined the “group”. Those portraits hung in our family room where many special events and many not so special events took place. All the same my family was always beside me.

Fast forward many years later I had three beautiful daughters of my own. I wanted that same portrait gallery in my home. I wanted my daughters to always have those family portraits to connect home and family. At that time it just was not in our budget to have those custom portraits that had been carefully painted by someone with the artistic talent and the eye to truly portraying the personality of each one of those paintings.

Being a “can do” girl I decided I would do it myself! But wait; I am not a trained artist. I don’t know how to draw or paint. So I set out to learn and after many, many years of practicing and with many classes and workshops and so much help from friends and my family, I can say now that I am a portrait artist.

I would like to help others obtain that beautiful one of a kind portrait.
