Welcome to our Etsy shop!

We are a team of two knitting chicas, Salome from Potosí, Bolivia and Rebekah from Indiana, U.S. who became friends during Rebekah's two year stint living and working as a volunteer in the "world's highest city" of Potosí, Bolivia. We both found we shared a passion for creative pursuits and entrepreneurship. Salome currently works an overtime sales job from her wheelchair, for half the current minimum wage and dreams of other work to pay for school and daily expenses, or starting her own enterprise. She is taking classes in hopes of finishing up her degree in one more year. Knitting is a soothing pastime and as she has taken knitting courses, is an expert.

Rebekah has learned quite a bit from her whereas Rebekah has had previous experience as an Etsy seller in the U.S. and is excited about the chance to specifically promote Salome's work. After a bit of brainstorming and dreaming we decided together to start selling handmade items, with hopes of building up inventory so Salome can be able to buy yarn to continue to knit and sell once Rebekah leaves town. We hope you enjoy what you see and PLEASE do feel free to make special requests of any item in any color (Bolivia is the land of knitters and yarn!). We named the shop Salome Knits not only because of its co-owner, but because the name Salome is closely related to the Hebrew word for shalom...or peace, in a complete, life-full sense. It is our prayer that these knits can bring a small strand of connection, shalom, to both Potosí and to those who purchase them.
