Welcome to Windy City Winter, a store with passion for designing and crafting up-cycled winter accessories. My shop is located in the northwest suburbs of Chicago, thus the name Windy City Winter. Here you will find warm and fashionable accessories I have created with you in mind! Each pair of mittens, leg warmers, hats and headbands have been uniquely crafted from up-cycled wool sweaters, jackets, or blankets, and many are lined in new fleece. Thanks to my very talented and creative mother, my childhood friends never knew how poor we were. Having the rare ability to create beautiful things from scraps of fabric or re-construct my older sister's things into a new clothing for me, we learned the meaning of "up-cycling" long before it became a popular or a household word. In our house it was making something old new again. That was how we kept up with the latest in fashion and how Mom re-designed things just for me!

I would like to think that I inherited this skill from my mother. I love to envision ways I can turn something old and forgotten into something new and beautiful! By rescuing old sweaters and crafting them into something new and better I hope to carry on this family tradition. Each product is created with love, just like mom would have done!
