About

I have always loved the arts and creating new things and always had a particular interest in little girl's clothing. I love the infinite amount of designs and special touches that can be added to girl's clothes to make them cute, pretty, fun, and special. I especially love handsmocked baby dresses and always hoped to have a little girl that I could dress in smocked dresses.

My wish came true. I had my baby girl. The problem was that I had no money to buy the smocked dresses I had dreamed of.

I never enjoyed sewing, but wanted my daughter dressed in smocked dresses so badly that I bought a pattern and fabric and decided that I was going to teach myself how to smock- and I did!

Sewing is still not my favorite, but the reward of being able to design, smock, and embroider dresses totally overrides my dis-like of sewing…

Sewing is still not my favorite, but the reward of being able to design, smock, and embroider dresses totally overrides my dis-like of sewing.

The first smocked dress I made for my daughter looked nothing like the dresses I make today, however it was smocked, and it looked smocked! From there, there was no stopping. My daughter had almost more smocked dresses than she could wear. She is now 32 and I've smocked continually. As the years passed my smocking improved. I got bored with stitching just basic designs, so I started adding bits of embroidery here and there, mostly little flowers.

I quickly realized the huge potential of embroidery, and the challenges of hand-embroidering scenes onto dress fronts became my passion. I have always wanted to paint, but never had the opportunity. I saw embroidery as a chance to, in a remote way, paint. I like to view a dress front as my canvas, and embroidery floss, with it's myriad of beautiful colors, as my paint.

I dove in and created my own niche in the world of smocking. This has become not only my medium for artistic expression; it has become my life!
I work on and think about, only one dress at a time. Each dress is one-of-a-kind, made entirely by me, from choosing the fabric, all the way through to the final stitch of the hem.

An extremely great amount of time goes into the creation of each dress. The largest reward is the thought that a little girl will enjoy wearing one of my dresses as much as I've enjoyed making it.

The end product is something that we both can share. What began as an idea in my mind, I stitched and gave personality. The child stepping into the dress, steps into wherever her imagination takes her. She will finish the story that I began.

Over the past few years I've added creations from other favorite interests to my shop. With the gift of a camera, 4 years ago, I discovered my love of photography. Making note card sets is something I do into the wee hours of the morning. I get so carried away I will miss meals & forget to go to bed until way too late.

Knitting has been a love of mine since I knit my first sweater at the age of 12, under the guidance of my 13yr-old friend. I love to knit & find it to be so relaxing ; wonderful for relieving stress & anxiety and I love the endless amount of items that knitting can produce.

My list of "arts" that I would love to learn is constantly growing, exceeding my lifetime, I'm sure, but, time permitting, as I discover & create new arts, I will be adding them to my repertoire, so check my shop occasionally & perhaps you'll see something that makes you say, "Yes! That's it! That's what I want!" -
And if that happens, know that what you've found has been created with love from a deep-seated passion to create!
