Rachel Glass' Profile

About

Growing up in New Mexico, I was surrounded by vibrant beadwork. When my elementary school advertised an after-school class in the classic peyote-stitch, I jumped at the chance to create my own beaded treasures!

I experimented with different designs, colors and beads, winning First Place and Best of Show in the NM State Fair children's division each year until the 7th grade. Somewhere around this time, puberty got in the way of my beading practice, leaving my beads to lie fallow until I graduated from college and returned home, at that time unemployed, to them waiting for me. I thought I would simply bead away my remaining stash, but the solace of placing bead after bead side by side in design, rekindled a familiar joy! Now living in Chicago, beading the peyote-stitch never fails to make me feel at home.
