About

Hi! My name is Ashley Rae and I am the designer behind RaeBird. Every piece is made with my own two hands in my Northern California studio.

RaeBIrd was born out of my inherent love of nature and my respect and admiration of the natives. I gather my inspiration from my childhood experiences that shaped me into who I now am.

I grew up on a big piece of property surrounded by mountains, trees, and rivers. I would spend my summer days building tree forts and scavenging through the forest. I became creative and resourceful. I used to whittle eating utensils and even wove sandals out of reeds. I was only seven years old, and yes I did have parents and I lived in a house.

About

I would ride my horse bareback all over the property pretending to be a child of nature. Born wild and free. No boundaries, no beginning or end. Just me and the animals with the wind through my hair and the sun upon my face. I collected rocks, feathers, wood, coyote teeth, and old rusty findings. I would create relics from my findings and pretend that they were native artifacts.

I was not only inspired by nature and the natives but I was fascinated with imperfections. I love worn wooden floors, cracked leather, rusted metal, and sun-bleached bones. I find beauty in scrap metal, trash, and dead animals. Everything is beautiful and deserves a second life!

Every piece I create is made with love and an imagination. I find beauty in the patina left behind on the metal from the flame and the nicks and dents from my tools. It shows it was handcrafted. It has a past, a present, and a future.

Take a look around and explore your primitive nature. Thank you for stepping into RaeBird's world!
