Biographical Sketch

Richard began his path leading to art with early classes in drafting and design. Work as a photographer for a post card company gave him valuable experience in composition and lighting, as well as, an appreciation for the scenic variety and beauty of Utah. During his 30 year career within the medical device industry he continued to develop his artistic skills by sketching scenes on location as he traveled around the world. Upon retirement in 2003 he began to study and paint seriously. He has studied watercolor with Joseph Alleman, Rachelle Levingston, and Lester Lee. Seminars with noted well-known local talent include Doug Braithwaite, Joseph Alleman, Roland Lee, and Carl Purcell.

Richard began his path leading to art with early classes in drafting and design. Work as a photographer for a post card company gave him valuable experience in composition and lighting, as well as, an appreciation for the scenic variety and beauty of Utah. During his 30 year career within the medical device industry he continued to develop his artistic skills by sketching scenes on location as he traveled around the world. Upon retirement in 2003 he began to study and paint seriously. He has studied watercolor with Joseph Alleman, Rachelle Levingston, and Lester Lee. Richard is a two star member of the Utah Watercolor Society and also a member of the Sandy Watercolor Club. He has won many awards in juried competitions. His works hang in private collections across Utah and the West. He has been selected to participate in the Deseret News Landscape Show and has exhibited his work, along with his daughter, Rachelle Levingston, in a two person father and daughter show.

He enjoys painting vanishing Utah farm scenes, scenic Utah and street scenes from his world wide travel. He has also drawn attention by capturing life-like paintings of the game fish from local and western waters.

His work hangs in Western Rivers Fly Fishing, Salt Lake City, Utah and in Barclay Butera, Park City, Utah.

Richard has a BS degree from Brigham Young University, (72) and an MBA from Westminster College, (94).
