Andrea Minnette's Profile

About

I view my work as a modern reflection to the past. Celebrating it’s legacy and timelessness, my passion is to create adornments from a cultural and anthropological perspective. Once treasured and then lost, many of the items in my work are composed of pieces that have been locked away for decades in warehouses and homes from around the world. In creating my work, I not only get to create expressions of my own, but also pay respect to a world of forgotten memories.
In a society driven by mass consumerism, I have always had a love for the worn. Items wearing their age proudly through a multitude of patinas find their way into my work. Their previous experiences, guarding us as we venture through our own lives.

Andrea Minnette began making traveling adornment after returning from from ventures in Chicago, Italy, Germany, Turkey and Northern California. Each move carrying with it memories and sentiment of past lives; of her own and of others.
The idea of leaving one’s footprint while collecting others pasts became an one of strong interest for Andrea Minnette. How do these objects travel through time and become the chosen ones to carry on in the physical world? Who has coveted them? Who has left them behind? The materials in reference range from discarded, patinated turn of the century costume jewelry- to items deposited through natural processes, such as, moss and dried pods. Time worn materials find creative marriage and a second life in Recrudescence’s designs.
Andrea Minnette holds a BFA in sculpture from the selective Kansas City Art Institute and a Masters in Curriculum and Instruction specializing in art from the University of Kansas City, Missouri.

Whether you enjoy objects of adornment from the past, have an interest in vintage fashion or simply love handmade pieces, I hope you enjoy my little store here on Etsy.
