ME AND MY LEATHER

I grew up in Los Angeles in a family where both my parents were artists. Mom and dad were happily busy painting, sculpting and showing their art all over town. I was surrounded with creativity all throughout my childhood so lucky for me I had no choice in the matter. For a little while I thought I'd rebel and become an oceanographer but it turned out I wasn't very studious. Thanks to my inspiring and helpful parents, I was going to be an artist!

I've been painting for 15 years, and 7 years ago I started making jewelry. I got my start with jewelry design when a friend and fellow artist was clearing out her home studio and she had this bag of shimmering leather remnants she was deciding to finally throw away. She told me she had held onto it for years thinking someday she would do something with it. I know this compulsion well. needing to save interesting little things that you don't quite know what to do with just yet...but someday...

From the top of the bag I could see all the different colors popping out. Metallic pinks, reds, turquoise and silver all mixed together and looking like candy...like fireworks... making me wonder...I couldn't wait to take this bag home and play!

That's exactly what I did. Now 7 years later, I still feel that same excitement when I see all the different colors of leather I work with. I still use small remnants, some recycled leather clothing and I still have some of the pieces she gave me.

I can't thank my friend enough for doing her spring cleaning and giving me this seed of inspiration!

For my designs, I combine leather, 14kt. gold and sterling silver to create my one of a kind pieces. This gives me a great array of color and endless varieties of prints and textures to work with. Each piece is really soft to the touch, lightweight, mixing comfort with luxury.

Some of my designs are inspired by my favorite female musicians. These designs have a "stand out in the crowd" edgy Rock 'n' Roll vibe. Others are more understated, elegant, classic and reminiscent of organic forms in nature.

I want to make the wearer of my jewelry feel beautiful, alluring, confident and unique!

In the past my jewelry has been seen in LA boutiques such as Fred Segals, Aero and Co., Kaviar and Kind, Yellow and XIN.
