About

I have been working with glass beads for 10 years. I got into wire wrapping just last year, and am loving it. I also make some hemp jewelry.

I make one of a kind pieces of jewelry. There may be similar pieces, but there will never be two that are exactly alike.

I find that making jewelry is a meditative process for me. Maybe it's the rhythm. Maybe it's the chance to slow down. But I love it so much. It keeps me from getting wrapped up in all the chaos that life has a way of bringing to us all. It also makes me apreciate the chaos, because I would not have such satisfying work otherwise.

I enjoy using natural components in my work. It's very satisfying to make a piece of jewelry that highlights Mother Nature's artwork. I also enjoy the many different kinds of glass, acrylic, and metal beads and…

I also enjoy the many different kinds of glass, acrylic, and metal beads and components. Czech glass beads are some of my favorites. So many dizzying choices.

Many of my creations are adorned with spirals. There are many meanings for spirals. I love how they illustrate the potential for destruction and creation. Tornadoes are whirling vortexes of destruction that tear down homes and lives. However, our Earth also turns, a twirling slow dance through our solar system, and this turning gives us night and day, and the chance for a new start.

My spirals always seem to be in motion, even when they are stilled in wire form. I've discovered a way to make many spirals on one piece, thus allowing your eye to follow the round curves for what seems like forever.

Some of my pieces now have titles. This illustrates one of two things: the fact that they have a story behind them, or the fact that those are one of a kind wire sculpture creations.

The ones with a story may sometimes have only a single sentence telling their tale, but it is meaningful to me, and hopefully to you. (I like meaningful words, not needless ones. I try to make sure nothing meaningless makes it into the stories.)

In the case of the one of a kind sculptures, I may be able to make something similar, but I will not be able to perfectly duplicate them. I mean for them to be one of a kind, and have created them so that they are unique.

I enjoy wood, paper, and leather crafts, and love making them. I've chosen to admire the work of other artisans in those disciplines, as I'm not as awesome as they are.

Enjoy your look around! :D I am on Facebook (http://www.facebook.com/windyjohansen) and Twitter (http://twitter.com/rootedphoenix), if you would like to follow my updates.
