About

So many things in this world fascinate me, but designing and making clothes is the one thing that obsesses me. Creating wedding gowns has been a life long dream of mine and now after 7 years of making them for countless amazing brides, I can really say it was my calling.

What is so special about a wedding gown is that it must be technically so above the typical garment, yet it also is meant to speak an emotional language that is tough to define. I love people, and I especially love seeing the real beauty in people. Creating a piece of clothing that can help a woman see that- both her inner and outer beauty- in herself is the most amazing experience! And I'm now lucky enough to say I get to do that pretty much every day.

How did I get here?

It's a long story honestly full of heartache, hard work, some funny bits, and so so much joy. Pretty hard to summarize, but here are some highlights for those of you who have gotten this far :)

My mom started teaching me to sew when I was 4 years old, and somehow it just became a part of my life, a part of me. We didn't have money for shopping, so I spent my teen years in thrift stores and my mom's sewing room, disassembling bridesmaids dresses from the 1970's (they can make darn cute tops!) and whipping up dresses from vintage patterns I found.

I decided to make fashion design my profession and went on to get my degree at the Fashion Institute of Technology in New York in 2003. After graduation, I worked in the industry as an assistant designer, mostly designing dresses for the contemporary and maternity woman's markets.

There have been several points when I thought I just couldn't hack it in the fashion industry anymore. At one juncture, I left NYC and the industry for half a year to trot around the globe and to look for a fresh perspective on life. I thought that might lead me away from fashion, but the opposite happened. When I found those amazing silk markets in Southeast Asia, undeniably cool girls in Tokyo, and super fresh styles in Australia, I realized wherever life takes me, design will always be a part of it.

Back in 2005 I started a line of contemporary maternity clothes which had some notable successes, including being picked up by several major department stores, and even a shout out from Oprah! But when the economy tanked in early 2009, I was forced to put my business to sleep. It was even more painful than it sounds.

But then in 2010, I found out I was pregnant with my first son. I felt absolutely determined not to put him in full time daycare while I slaved away at a cubicle, and so I started freelancing from home and simultaneously started my Etsy shop. What began as a humble trial has over the years turned into a pretty serious operation! We are now a brick and mortar business (come visit us!!) and wholesale across the globe.

I'm now a mom to TWO little dudes (and two crazy grey kitties) and have to admit, despite the daily challenges, life is pretty awesome. I am completely blessed.

Etsy is a place for me to share my love of design. It has also been a totally amazing platform through which I've been able to build a business that now employs more than a dozen amazing people, and allows us to connect to countless fascinating people.

I hope you enjoy our work as much as we enjoy making it! Cheers!
