Safari Sister's Profile

About

Hello and welcome to my humble digital abode here on Etsy. Hola, Jacky here, artist -designer aka SafariSister. This digital persona evolved over many years by myself, friends & family (thank-you sister :>) as a kind of embodiment (and funny caricature) of my travels and art experiments over the years. A light hearted tag that most of us creatives can id with -- to adventure, to travel, to create to go where no girl has gone before for that ah-ha moment!!!

So here i am at experiment #343 - recently escaped the the big city (thank-ya lord) for Old World Mexico and working not hard enough to learn Spanish -- exploring Mayan ruins, diving in 3 oceans when i can, caves & cenotes, waterfalls, tribes of Mayan descendents & artisans, deep jungles, high mountains and diverse beaches - home to 15% of the the worlds flora and fauna...50% of which is endemic to Mexico…

My background, over 25 years, is in both metalsmithing and computer arts. Over the years i've worked and studied at one or both in the USA, London, Switzerland and Mexico.

Currently my day is a mix of independent work between UX-UI design, metal work and working with a local group of Mayan tribe women creating a home-based CO-OP model of sustainable work - a mix of art, craft, history, technology and spirit. These women are the last direct Mayan descendants (different culturas and languages) who through recent times via Westernization and intermarriage may find themselves far from family, in large Mexican cities with children & family to support but with no viable means to so so. I am excited to be working with other sisters in the world!

I really love doing what i'm doing and hope that even if you're only perusing my etsy site that at the very least you are inspired to pursue the loves of your life :]
