About

I abandoned a career in accountancy and tax five years ago to give a little more time to our children and start a very small business selling silver plated tableware online. At the time we were living in the wild, remote and beautiful Shetland Islands off the northern tip of Scotland. We were lucky enough to be living in a gorgeous Georgian house situated just above a small beach next to a red granite headland called, "The Taing". It was this lovely place from which we took our business name, "Taingtiques", and our current logo photograph is the view of the headland from our garden.

I had always loved antiques and particularly metal-ware, having memories of my grandfather polishing brass at the dining table whenever he came to stay at our family home - no-one else had time and he found it very therapeutic. I have inherited the metal-polishing gene!…

I have inherited the metal-polishing gene!

Well, the children have grown up fast - our daughter has left home and our son is now a teenager who prefers gaming on a fancy computer or knocking about with his pals to spending time with his fuddy-duddy parents. But that's great - my husband has now retired and we can really concentrate on building up the business. What's more, we have now moved to the UK mainland, just on the English/Welsh border - a beautiful place where we take inspiration from the soft green landscape immediately around us, the pretty villages, the Welsh hills visible in the wide blue yonder and the gorgeous large trees - a rarity in Shetland!

We are so excited about our new opportunities and plan to develop our stock with a far greater range of antiques and quality solid silver products that we were unable to access before. We hope to attend some shows in the coming year and, having previously split our stock between several online shops we are now focusing on Etsy as our main internet outlet - it is such a pleasure to work with!

So please, browse our products, buy if you love them and keep in touch!
