Sandy Dekker's Profile

About

I have been sewing since I was 10 years old, but it wasn't until I found out I was going to be a grandma that quilting came onto my radar. After making a few traditional baby quilts, I made a couple lap quilts, a bed quilt and then I discovered art quilts.

I rarely plan out an entire project. I usually start with color and spend a few hours finding those fabrics that will compliment or work together in a project. I have a starting point and work out from there. I love to try new techniques and incorporate them in my art pieces.

I find free motion quilting to be relaxing and I try to fill each quilt I make with many different designs as possible. I don't use patterns, but rather fill the quilt with original designs or thread painting. The creative process is challenging yet very fulfilling.
