Debbie Boren's Profile

About

My name is Debbie Boren. I began sewing when I was a child. I remember the first project my mother and I made together. It was a wonderful little pink terrycloth dress. I can almost feel that silky terrycloth in my hands when I think hard enough. I remember feeling so special when I wore it. My Mother made quite a few things for me. A fabulous Holly Hobby dress, a nice tailored brown corduroy blazer.....I'm sure there were many more. Now she makes beautiful quilts and other sewn items.

I stepped away from sewing during my teenage years and when I got married and began having my family. As my boys began to grow, I got back into crafting, and sewing. I stepped away from sewing during my teenage years and when I got married and began having my family. As my boys began to grow, I got back into crafting, and sewing. Then, I received a new sewing machine as a gift from my husband and I was on my way. 5 machines later and with many bolts of fabric in my studio, I have come to love my craft. I sew every day.

Sew Me a Memory began when I was making quilts, curtains and table runners but that soon grew into Children’s clothing when my friends and family members started having girls. Once I made one piece I couldn’t stop. The ruffles, the colors and the fun style inspired by laughing little girls and the birds butterflies and flowers. All of God’s gifts inspire me. Today I have my grandmother's sewing machine as an inspiration. Maybe one day I will sew a stitch on it, but for now it gives me inspiration and makes me feel like Nana is right here with me.

My children and husband are so supportive of my craft. They try their best to give their opinions when I show them a new design or a new fabric line I received in. It’s a bit funny that I make little girls clothing when I have a grown son, Jonny 19, and a teenage son, Joey 16. Both my most precious gifts! I feel like my husband, Carl, and my sons are proud of me, and that makes me smile.
