Shannon Bates Creates on all sorts of levels. I am a gigging musician (saxophone, a little flute, etc.) and a published writer (fiction, poetry, and non-fiction editing), and I am always looking for more creative ventures. I also play soccer, love polar bears, and LOVE the color green.

After I started making jewelry and other crafts, I decided to set a paper grocery bag out at my office for collections. I offered in an explanatory note some suggestions of what might be good donations for my projects-- bottle caps, broken jewelry, game pieces, etc. I've received some great contributions. One coworker in particular has brought in bags of great junk for me to use in my pieces.

My goal is to reuse as much as possible. Every time I find another item to upcycle, it gets my creative mind working toward a fabulous final product…
