About

Hi! I'm Shawna Smith.

I’ve been sewing since I was around 7 years old. I remember needing a flapper costume for a performance that we were doing in grade school. My teacher sent me home with a plastic bag full of red polyester, fringe and stretchy sequins. I was suppose to have my mom, who worked full-time to support four kids, make the dress in two days. We didn’t even own a sewing machine! But my mom did not disappoint and, by some miracle, the dress was finished and waiting for me in the same plastic bag the very next morning. It was perfect!

That’s when I fell in love with sewing. I received my BFA in Fibers and Textiles from The Savannah College of Art and Design in 2003. After I graduated I moved to Chicago with my husband to fulfill me creative destiny! Which actually did not occur until after a string of retail management jobs, a quick stint as a CAD textile designer (not for me!) and the birth of my beautiful son. As a stay-at-home mom I am afforded the opportunity to pursue my dreams and do what truly makes me happy. I’m a very lucky girl!
Shawna Smith Handmade Goods is a brightly colored collection of eco-concious wares for kids and their family. I take inspiration from my husband and my son, from color and from the silly side in us all. Enjoy!
