About

Hi there!
My name is Shannon and I’m a girl that wears many hats…

I have a degree in Applied Arts and Sciences from SDSU. I’m a marketing professional, a wife and mom to 2 busy kids, a lifestyle photographer, an assemblage artist, an interior decorator, a student (I just received my professional certificate in Digital and Social Media from SDSU) and now, officially a shop owner here on Etsy!

I’ve been exploring my creative side for as long as I can remember and I’ve always been drawn to various forms of art, photography, decor, fashion and music. I love old, vintage, kitschy things that have some kind of story or history. I try to incorporate one or all of these elements into my design scheme when I decorate homes. I also love to include some kind of personal photo collage wall somewhere in the design scheme. In fact,…

About

In fact, the name of my business, 5x7design, is inspired by the fact that I am a photographer and artist, and that I reference the photo and framing size of a 5x7 print quite often. It's also a fun coincidence that both of my kids birth dates have the numbers 5 and 7 in their birth month, day and year. And yes, I do have a fun collection of vintage numbers 5 and 7!

I love to shop in artsy boutiques, vintage/antique shops and anywhere off the beaten path. I love anything western, stars, flags, cowboys, crosses, old barns, crowns, angels and hearts. I started collecting these and other vintage treasures for my own home, then for friends and clients. My shopping also began to include vintage figurines, crosses, ephemera and architectural salvage (did I mention that I love to shop?). I decided I wanted to do something with my growing collections and I’ve always been drawn to the soldered crystal cross and sea shell bottles you see in boutiques, so I decided to teach myself to solder (thanks YouTube!) and see what I could do. After some trial and error with the solder and finishing process, I began to create! Pretty soon I had more soldered bottles than I could give as gifts. I’ve always loved Etsy and have purchased the best gifts from artists here, so I thought it was time for me to join the ranks! So here I am, with my vintage bottle art and some vintage inspired soldered ornaments, tags and keepsakes to share.

Most all of my pieces have some kind of history about them, whether it be where or how a bottle, figure, or salvaged piece was found, its approximate age, where it was made, to how I acquired it. Some of pieces are bisque figures of German origin. Some were made in Japan. Most were produced from the 1920-1940’s and were used in various ways…as miniature dolls, carnival prizes, etc. Each piece of bottle art I create is a one of a kind piece and I will include as much information and detailed history about my pieces in their listings. I feel their history is as interesting and important as the finished piece of art.

Thank you for visiting my shop and I hope you will share my art with your family & friends. Please feel free to contact me with any questions you may have. I am also happy to create a custom piece, just for you, or the someone you want to gift. You might even have your own figurine, architectural piece, photograph or ephemera that I can use to create a very personal and unique piece of art.
