Carolyn Weir's Profile

About

Hi! I'm Carolyn Weir the owner and creator of Skysetter Mobile Designs - I left the corporate world to create kinetic mobile sculptures in my home studio as of January 2013. I began creating mobiles in 2009 and it has been the most interesting journey of my life.

My creative journey began tinkering as a child. I think the first thing I took apart and put back together was my fathers hi-fi stero back in the 70's. Lol, boy was I in trouble for that one! I played piano at the time. Next, I took apart my mothers sewing machine, put it back together and proceeded to learn to sew. I had to know my tools inside out before I could create with them apparently. In my teens I was lucky enough to learn some jewelry making skills from an old Mexican artisan. I continue to use those skills today.

About

As a former Kite Flyer and Kite Maker from 1993 to 2005 I take great joy in seeing colorful shapes aloft. After discovering Alexander Calder, Timothy Rose, Simon Gudgeon and others, I was intrigued by the possibility of creating beautiful kinetic sculptures. I wanted to bring some of that artistry into my home and the homes of others. I was hooked and truly engaged and remain so today.

In addition to creating mobiles with solid colored shapes I discovered the joy of watercolor painting and have found a way to join the beauty of watercolors and the interesting movement of the kinetic mobile. I'm thrilled with the possibility of creating unique artistic sculptures daily. I hope that my enthusiasm flows into my work and to you!
