Bakelite Arts is a vintage jewelry and home collection that spans the 20th century with an emphasis on pieces that showcase innovation, are remarkable for their dramatic beauty, and utilize a range of materials such as plastics and resins (bakelite, celluloid and lucite) or special coatings such as those developed by Daniel Swarovski and Christian Dior to produce an iridescent effect when applied to crystal stones.
The collection has been hand picked by Ruth Ann Gordon who earned her degree in Fashion Merchandising from the Tobé-Coburn School in the 1950s, started out as a buyer for Neiman Marcus and has sold bakelite at flea markets in Los Angeles, Seattle and New York since the 1970s.
