De N Dave Smith's Profile

About

Dave & De are a husband & wife team, both contributing merchandise to the store. Dave is heavy on the jewelry end, while De tends toward the nuts-and-bolts daily maintenance of the store, Facebook page & running of the whole thing.

Dave:
I began making things in my childhood. With an older brother and a father who built & created, a family history of metal-smithing (various forms) and access to welders, torches, saws, drills and other tools, I delved deep and learned quickly. I worked on cars, helped with the maintenance of the house with my dad for a while, then took it over. Furthering my skills and education, I worked "Renaissance Man" jobs, where I could use many skills at once: design of machinery, building machines, maintaining machines, running machines, HVAC work, building & shop maintenance, customer service, sales, art, teaching, other types of design, packaging, quality control, shipping & receiving, management, stage set & costume design & creation, stage prop design & creation, sound & lighting skills,

(where I left off in process)
De has always been interested in unique watches and for a time, worked in a watch sales/repair shop, where she developed a fascination for the beauty of the inner workings of timepieces. She has loved decorated socks since before the kids came along, and baby socks just ramped up that interest. The lack of comfortable, decorated socks in larger sizes spurred the interest in painting socks. The whole family attended their first Anime convention in Columbus, Ohio in 2010, which opened the doors of creativity even more - a love of Steampunk was born!

Dave & De both hope you enjoy our work and are ever so thankful for people like you who support small businesses and individual artists! <3

"If you're buying from a small business, you're not adding to a CEO's portfolio of expensive cars and vacation homes. You're helping put food on the table for a family, buying clothes for growing kids, helping a family support themselves."
