Alice Elizabeth Still's Profile

About

My name is Alice and I'm addicted to beads.

In fact, I am the Imelda Marcos of beads!

I have been making and selling jewellery for nearly 14 years. I had intended to go to Art College to study costume design but some how ended up studying at Trinity College in Dublin. As a result I hold degrees in Computer Engineering and Mathematics.

I moved to the UK from Ireland shortly after my last exam and settled in the market town of Biggleswade about 50 miles north of London. I have always loved making jewellery and my passion is off-loom bead weaving.

My craft-fu is almost certainly genetic, my mother is an avid hand quilter - everything from the piecing to quilting is done by hand, she has a sewing machine but it is a 1913 Singer that is a bit temperamental -…

I moved to the UK from Ireland shortly after my last exam and settled in the market town of Biggleswade about 50 miles north of London. I have always loved making jewellery and my passion is off-loom bead weaving.

My craft-fu is almost certainly genetic, my mother is an avid hand quilter - everything from the piecing to quilting is done by hand, she has a sewing machine but it is a 1913 Singer that is a bit temperamental - and embroiders. In fact she can turn her hand to anything apart from knitting. I grew up in a house with a sign in the kitchen that said "She who dies with the most fabric wins!" I think my mum is winning ;-) I on the other hand have a roomful of beads. No seriously, the room, it is FULL of beads ;-D I'm not sure that it is humanly possible to use them all but I'm doing my best!

My dad is a mathematician by training and a programming genius by profession, from him I inherited my love of mathematics and patterns and general elegance of geometrical forms - something which has very much informed my recent designs.

I worked for a number of years in IT but have recently left that world behind me to be a stay at home mum to Amelia who was born in April '08. In fact I spent a large part of my labour chatting to friends on the Etsy Forum and chat!
