Jodi Bloom's Profile

About

Hi and thanks for stopping by my etsy shop! I'm JODI BLOOM, designer, storyteller, and provocateur behind So Charmed. I studied fine art at RISD and UMD, and have been a maker/designer/artist since my teen years in Ohio. I began making and selling jewelry online almost 15 years ago and have been selling in a variety of Etsy shops (this now being my only active shop) for 8 years. I make, photograph, list and ship every single item and I thank you for supporting handmade!

With a prior incarnation as a published short fiction writer (work in 30+ literary magazines and anthologies during the 1990’s alongside a few of my writerly heros such as David Foster-Wallace, and a daytime gig managing the clients and work of designfarm – my graphic design practice in the DC metro area, I found jewelry to be the perfect medium with which to realize conceptual pieces that could also be worn. My work often tells a vividly imagined story, is sometimes political, and engages her vast collection of vintage beads, findings and treasured found objects.

Creative influences include growing up in the midwest, carnivals and the circus, rock ‘n roll, world cultures, literature, Victoriana, mourning jewelry, Andy Warhol, Marcel Duchamp, Marie Antoinette, Schiaparelli, McQueen, Arthur Rimbaud and many other people and things.

My work has been featured in many curated books, blogs (MrXStitch, Joetta Maue, 18kt, SubversiveCrossstitch + others) and print magazines (Bust, InStyle, Aishti, etc.), and has been worn by more than one celebrity rockstar including one of my fashionista heroes Courtney Love, as well as actresses, writers, and other artists. Work was commissioned by April Winchell of Regretsy for the jewelry section divider page of her hilarious book. Two pieces of jewelry were curated into a major international exhibit–RimbaudMania–which opened in Paris in 2010. Those pieces now reside in the permanent collection of the Rimbaud Museum in Charleville-Mézières, France.

I really love what I do and hope that you find something magical, delightful, and wearable in my work.
