This whole idea started as a way for me to keep from going crazy at work. At the time I was working in the food court of an airport and one of my duties was to give a lunch break at the Mexican restaurant. Since there might only be 3 or 4 customers an hour, I wanted a challenge, so I imposed rules on myself. I wasn’t allowed to use anything but my hands to bend the paperclips, I couldn’t break any of the paperclips, I had to be done in within 50 minutes while helping customers and each figure must stand by itself. This whole idea started as a way for me to keep from going crazy at work. At the time I was working in the food court of an airport and one of my duties was to give a lunch break at the Mexican restaurant. We had paperclips laying around and I started to idly twist them when I wasn’t helping customers. One day I decided I’d try to make something. So I look down and I had made Fiddler, or the figure that would later be referred to as Fiddler. I started to make things out of paperclips, creatures out of my imagination and out of books and legend. In striving to find the limits of this bizarre talent on a medium like paperclips (a fact that I still battle with today), I went home and started making figures staying with the original rules, baring the 50 minute time limit. Suddenly whenever I found idle time more of these creatures would sprawl from my imagination filling shelves and tables. Me being some guy with a hat, and an exceptionally odd skill set presents to you a product befitting the label of geekery, my uncommon twist on what imagination can do.
