I started out painting and drawing as all people do for the love of it and since then I have had lessons for 3 years with local artists with whom I am always in touch.

I like to look. So I draw and paint directly from observation. This is what attracts me most to painting. I started out painting and drawing as all people do for the love of it and since then I have had lessons for 3 years with local artists with whom I am always in touch.

I like to look. So I draw and paint directly from observation. This is what attracts me most to painting. If you focus intensely on even the simplest object, there are at any given moment an infinite number of choices to be made in terms of how to paint it. This vastness makes you create something original. The object may have been painted a million times over in the past, but each generation sees it differently. I also find it fascinating that the eye has a different sense of space to the camera regardless the scale. For me it's worth exploring.

The artists that I always seem to find myself turning to for guidance or just the sheer pleasure of their work are as disparate as Schiele, Hokusai, Picasso, Vermeer, Van Gogh, Matisse, Sargent, Katraki, Moralis, Tsarouchis, Freud, Monet.. the list is endless. The fact is I take in everything I see.

My favourite materials are acrylic, charcoal and watercolour.
