About

I am a mother, college student, and soldier in the US Army. One of my first loves (besides my family) is art. Growing up and into my adult and teenage years I always favored the arts over academics. In school I took every single art class I could including: jewelry making, pottery, drawing, painting, calligraphy, stage craft, ect. I have always had a love of handmade items and often taught myself through research and reading how to make things.

When I was 12 years old my aunt taught me how to crochet. I did it on and off for a little while, but really became interested in it again in 2007 when I was getting ready to deploy to Iraq. I figured I needed a hobby in my free time while I wasn't working on deployment and also taught myself how to knit at that time and I haven't stopped since. In 2008 while still overseas I became inspired by friends on Ravelry to learn how to…

In 2008 while still overseas I became inspired by friends on Ravelry to learn how to spin yarn. I started out on a drop spindle because obviously I couldn't have a spinning wheel in Iraq! When I came home in 2009 I bought my first spinning wheel and quickly picked up spinning on that as well. Now I bring my knitting and spinning with my every where I go. It truely is a loabor of love.

In 2005 I opened my handmade jewelry business 'Princess Emma's Jewelry' (named after my daughter). I specialized in bridal and special occassion jewelry and did many custom orders. In 2008 I transitioned my business to encompass my handspun yarn, knitwears, hair accessories, hand made bath products and other hand made items as my interests grow. I have many other crafty hobbies including embrodiery, drawing, painting, pottery, sewing, jewelry making, papercrafts and more.

Besides my crafts I love dancing salsa and latin ballroom. I love everything vintage 1950s / pin ups, Dia de Los Muertos, Gnomes, Buddha's, Hedgehogs, the beach, summer, mini schnauzers, pink and Cupcakes.

Come join my group on Ravelry 'SparkleShan Yarn and Peeps' and show off your knitting, crochet and weaving projects from my handspun yarn.
