Aijung Kim's Profile

About

I am an artist, writer, and printmaker. I currently live in Richmond, Virginia where I make prints, crafts, and zines. I am inspired by the minutiae of everyday life, nature, my garden, toys, children's books, and comics.

I graduated from Pratt Institute in 2004 with a BFA in Fine Art Printmaking. I love the process, challenges, and surprises involved in making a print. Original prints are not computer printouts. The making of each image might go through one or more of these processes: carved, scratched into, stencilled, inked and pulled by hand - and therefore more of the artist's energy is transferred into the finished work. While I am passionate about offering original fine art, I have also turned some of those originals into reproductions as archival prints and notecards in order to make some of my items more affordable.

Zines are one of the staples of my shop because they are a natural extension of my personality and tendencies to want to chronicle the everyday joys and hurdles of my life, as well as my love of poetry and drawing, in the form of small, illustrated books. At this point, making zines is a necessity - I only hope to carve out more time for it!

I also offer a deck of oracle/divination cards called "The Golden Moth Illumination Deck." It is a deck of symbolic cards which I illustrated myself, which may be used in the manner of tarot to gain insight and perspective into your life, or it can be used for any creative purpose you desire! I had the costs of producing the deck funded through a Kickstarter campaign which you may view here: http://www.kickstarter.com/projects/51647073/the-golden-moth-illumination-deck
