Hi! Welcome to Starfly Creations on Etsy.

Philosophy: I believe an artist should always keep the "awe" in everything they see. I love discovering our world through a variety of avenues, seeing beauty in minute details that are often overlooked.

Inspiration: Every tactile, tangible and not-so-tangible element that makes life, life. It may be my daughter's expression at trying something new, long hair in a breeze, the detailed pattern of an insect wing, or the humor found in every day situations. About

I love following the line and form, movement and rhythm in everything I see. Life is my inspiration.

Experience: My love of art started the moment I could hold a crayon and it has never left me. I have a BFA in graphic design and over twenty years experience designing and creative directing everything from local television spots to logos, packaging and national promotions for some amazing accounts. My knowledge and love of design combined with digital and presentation experience has enabled me to develop a style of using both positive and negative space to create unique cut paper designs.

The Process: All my cut paper designs start as my own original sketch — often drawn on anything and everything from the back of envelopes to a little journal. From the concept doodle stage, I start to develop a tighter pencil sketch studying the positive and negative space that make up the image as one continual visual formed by the sum of the missing parts. Once I am happy with my design, I bring it into the computer and tweak until I have it just right — creating an image that is held together as one without the necessity of multiple layers or color blocks to achieve the illustration. Then instead of simply making a print, I take it a step farther by printing on a cutter to showcase the design best. The final art is design at it's optimum, achieved by strategic use of positive and negative space to give the illusion of image — all on one sheet of continuous paper.

Keeping the "i" in Individual: My approach to home decor embraces individuality by enabling each individual the freedom of choice and change. Decide the optimal background color, switch backgrounds at anytime without any harm to the original cut image, and to explore alternative background usage such as a floating frame sans background to reveal actual wall color, or a swatch of fabric complimenting your decor. It's not what color I like that matters but about the individual's choice. Now updating a room's color scheme doesn't involve retiring the art. Instead, simply re-imagine the background again and again, color after color, pattern after pattern, year after year, for the perfect compliment to your decor.

Looking for an uncommon design? Have something in mind? Just ask. I will provide you a free quote for your specific request whether it's a hedgehog riding a motorcycle, a modern interpretation on nature, or a promotional graphic for commercial use. I would love the opportunity to tackle your challenge.

Thanks for stopping by. I hope you enjoy your visit.

GOING GREEN! I am in the process of transitioning my paper stock over to recycled papers. Moving forward, I will be using a combination of papers until my current stock is completely depleted. Any recycled product will be mentioned within the items description. Please bare with me while I utilize my remaining paper and shipping stocks until I completely transition to a more earth friendly store. A few colors will remain with a lower level of 10% PCW until I am able to locate similar colors with a higher recycled content.
