About

I'm a professional photographer currently based in Scotland but still with one foot in the Netherlands after a year spent mostly over there.

I have been using SX70 polaroid cameras for the last 8 few years to take these slightly dreamy images that fall half way between photograph and painting.

Since discovering this process it has been a real source of delight to me, and a perfect way to work. My routine involves choosing a location, strolling around for a while, taking my photograph or a few, but not too many in one go. Walking around a little more to allow the photograph to reach the optimum point for working on. Finding a cafe, ordering a reviving cappucino and spending the next hour or so working on the photograph to achieve the results you see here.

I try not to take too many in one go after one session where I shot a whole batch of ten in one session and had to race against time , with aching hands to complete everything before the film became unworkable.

Now that my supplies are all but done I am experimenting with film from the Impossible Project as well as using all other cameras I have available - from Canon5D through point and shoots, Holga, Holgaroid and of course phone cameras. Everything is fair game as I travel around recording little snippets that delight my eye.

My work was recently on show as part of the Edinburgh LoFi group at Urban Outfitters, Edinburgh until 22nd March 2012.

Before that my most recent exhibitions were at Newington Library in Edinburgh and at the Edinburgh Fine Art Library as part of the Edinburgh Lofi Photography Group.

I exhibited at the Gladstone Gallery in Edinburgh in spring 2010 and followed that with an exhibition at the Gallery Cafe , Ullapool in August/September.

My first solo exhibtion of polaroid paintings was held at the Bank Street Gallery, Kirriemuir from May to July of 2008

I have finished the photographic part of my "12 City Project" which saw me photograph 12 European cities - Florence, Prague,Gothenburg and St. Andrews, Venice, Paris, London, Amsterdam and Istanbul. Final cities were Budapest , Sibiu Tallinn.

In each city I am shot a series with my last supplies of SX70 polaroid film and also creating a new range of "Polaroid Collages". This is my response to Polaroid stopping production of all their films - and to relish every single shot I take during this year.
