About

Bonjour and welcome to Studio Vignette. My name is Anyes Kadowaki Busby. One’s home should be a sanctuary, a lieu of harmony, beauty and comfort where all that we love can be found.

ARTIST PROFILE

Anyes was born, raised and educated in Montreal, graduating with honours from Lasalle College in Fashion Design. She spent 30 years in the garment industry, travelling to the fashion capitals of Europe and circling the globe to fuel her creativity. Anyes designed high-end women’s, teen and toddler's clothing for the Canadian, American and European markets. She left this very demanding career behind for a town and country life to pursue a form of creativity that she considers more genuine: the visual arts.

Having resided in the biggest cities in Canada, she now lives in beautiful St Marys, Ontario, with her husband, daughter and two dogs in a heritage house they call The Dusty Victorian. Her studio has been set up in what once served as the main parlour of the house. Self-taught, as a child, she would draw anything and everything around her. She draws inspiration from Old World masters of the Renaissance and the 18th century and from the lively colour palettes of the modernist painters. A long career in the garment industry handling fabrics has left its marks in her artworks, seen in prints and textures.

Interior scenes, family heirlooms, and forgotten vintage and antique objects hold places of honour on her canvas. Her love for the botanical, insect, and animal world is obvious. She enjoys pairing the inanimate with the living, often creating an element of surprise with the discovery of a little creature hiding somewhere in her paintings. The meticulous details in her work draw the viewer in, close and personal, as if she wants to tell a secret.

Having explored many mediums, acrylic paints on canvas are Anyes’ preferred materials, but she also enjoys the timeless quality of a graphite drawing on paper.
