About

substance designs jewelry is designed and constructed by me, Carolyn Healy, in my home studio in Chicago, IL.

With my IT nerd job of years outsourced to India, I'm blessed with the chance to embark on a new adventure to pursue a life of love, happiness, success, and fulfillment, and appreciate you taking the time to find out more about me and my creation: substance designs jewelry.

Great consideration is given to the textures, the colors, the way light interacts with the piece, and the source of the components.

I purchase locally whenever possible, support products made in the USA, and love to scour second hand stores in search of broken pieces that can be reincarnated. I've partnered with the Salvation Army PROMISE program, to teach jewelry to young girls who have been victims of sex trafficking, and donate a percentage of all sales to the program.

With years of creative experience making stained glass, a Masters in Literature from Northwestern, and a certificate in Design Concepts from SAIC, I combine creativity, discipline, and an eye for simple lines to create your new favorite jewelry.

The goals are simple: reclaim, renew, and respect.

(Added bonus : all pieces are vegan/vegetarian.)
