About

My paintings seem to have a motivation and purpose all their own, surprising me as they follow their own paths, unfolding in new ways every time. Each painting begins with raw canvas I stretch over a gallery-style frame graciously hand-crafted by my father. I am attracted to bright colors and the forms and lines found in natural elements. I am influenced by both the opportunity I experienced to travel and live abroad and the fields that grow and nourish much closer to home.

My work often juxtaposes maps and pattern paper, a staple of my childhood, with thread, photographs and interesting textures. I am drawn to inspirational quotes that aspire me to more and better things in life.

I also hand-stitch small notebooks, using many of the same color and line qualities found in my paintings. I am fortunate enough to have inherited a collection of vintage thread from my grandmother and great grandmother, and use the bright colors as I stitch together these small tokens. I am inspired by the creative connection linking my grandmother's generation to my mother and on to me.

I am a returned Peace Corps volunteer, and I have just completed a three year grad school journey in Art Therapy Counseling. I create to center myself, to find the wholeness in life, to make a little spot of cheer in the chaos.
