Susan Najarian's Profile
Each of my paintings are created using many thin layers of wax that attract and refract light. Encaustic is from the ancient Greek word that means to heat. The medium consists of beeswax melted with a small amount of resin to impart hardness
Using photography as the ground, photos are digitally manipulated and the images then transferred to a wood frame covered in encaustic wax. Layers of wax then suspend the photograph, altering the appearance to produce the cloud like feeling of the medium. The imagery appears to float.
