Suzie Hayward's Profile

About

Hi! Are you a doll enthusiast, like me? Welcome to my shop!

My name is Suzie, and I’m a doll maker. I’ve been selling my unique, handmade cloth dolls to collectors and doll lovers since year 2000!

Originally a hairdresser on board cruise ships , I started my creative journey as a trained decorative artist in 1991. I started painting furniture and then sold a piece, which inspired me to seek formal training as a decorative artist. I followed this interesting path, which led to a decorative finishes seminar in England and further learning in the US and Canada with well known decorative artists. I sold many painted pieces all over Bermuda (in the Art Centre, craft markets, cat shows, hotels and gift shops and more!). I also did a lot of custom work. My doll making began in year 2000. I designed my own website, called “Bermuda Angels”, and then opened my Etsy shop later on in 2011.

I bring my beautiful dolls to life in my bright and spacious studio/craft room in our home on the beautiful south shore of Nova Scotia, Canada . It is a rural area near an expansive bay, and I often see the fishing boats leave and return followed by flocks of seagulls. We are surrounded by a beautiful garden, which is my favourite hobby and a forest that is home to lots of different birds and wildlife .

My husband of 37 years, Steve, is my main support. He adores my dolls and gives me wonderful feedback! For many years, he would do all the cutting out of my angels and other wood work. Now he does the post office run and feeds me when I get busy! We also have 7 cats and a Daschund called Squeaky .

I love primitive, shabby and whimsical styles . My heart and soul go into each enchanting character, with the hope that your girly heart will be touched by my happy dolls!
