About

Hi! Thank you for showing interest in me as a artist:)

I'm a Montessori preschool teacher and I just love to be crafty, this is my outlet for all the things I make. I currently live in Melbourne and work out of my 'craft room' that i share with my hubby at our place in Melbourne. We spent the last 8 years in Seattle Washington, Whitefish Montana and Portland Oregon in that order. I love electronica, the ocean beach, good wine, home brewing beer, snowboarding and my family. This shop is my one woman show, i do all the photography modeling and creating, I really love it, it helps me feel like my soul doesn't completely belong to 9-5 work week.

I never considered myself any good at art in high school, so I have no art education past year 7, and now that I have bills and grown up life, paying for art school is a dream, but it may happen. I paint, crochet,…

About

I paint, crochet, draw, sew my own clothes and dabble in silver smithing. When I sew I use natural materials, often from my local fabric shop, or I use recycled materials, that I find through hours of combing the thrift/ opp shops to find unwearable clothing with a cool pattern or feature I can use. I also often use the off cuts from making my own clothes and repurpose them in to utility belts. For my crochet I love boutique yarns, again I avoid plastic or acrylic, preferring wool hemp soy or cotton and use manufacturers that use low impact dye where ever possible. For my jewelry I go to the century building in Melbourne's cbd, to buy the findings, the stones I collect constantly, in random markets, and shops, I like to hold them before I buy them. All of my shells I collect myself, either in Hawaii or on Australia's south and eastern coast line. I love walking on the beach, especially in winter.

My creative process is definitely far from assembly line, that is why I have so few items in my shop. For the jewelry, I start with the largest stone, that energy is my inspiration and decide what it wants to become; I often make, test drive and then amend a piece so it sits right, feels right or looks more balanced. For the utility belts, I start with the pockets and construct, then decorate to suit, all based on a feature or peice of fabric, i compare and contrast the fabrics i have until i get the right mix and then go for it. All utility belts are one off, and whatever size they are is what they are, this makes them harder to sell but much more a creative process not just a physical process to make. When I crochet the process is different, I know what I want to make the style look and feel I want, then I search for the yarn. I really enjoy the hours wasted in yarn shops, my favourite will always be happy knits in Portland Oregon. I don't make the same item ten times, I wouldn't want to, I might make the same pattern for a hat, but never the same hat.

My goal is number one to create a space and outlet for my creations, but it is also a statement against mass production, and materials and products that are produced with no thought for the environment. All my creations are produced on a small scale and with the least environmental impact i can manage. My style is unique because it is just me, I make what I like, not what I think is in fashion or what suits a particular style.
