NEWBORN BABY SHOES, HAND PAINTED TO ORDER
21 years ago one of my dearest friends, who never had children, sent our oldest son a pair of painted infant sneakers to celebrate his birth. I still have them, and in January, they provided the inspiration for my sister-in-law's first grandchild. This new baby lives where both his parents and their parents were born. What can you get for That Baby Who Is Going To Get Everything? PAINTED SHOES! I bought 4 pairs of infant christening shoes, paints, brushes and forced my two boys and husband to paint one pair each for Baby Van. THEY ARE SO STINKING WONDERFUL! One of the scariest women I know advised that they would sell well on Etsy and set the price for me. So! Custom orders are available - price to be determined.

Prototypes are shown but because all are handmade, no two are exactly alike. Orders will be painted upon receipt of payment from Pay Pal. All shoes are packaged in a plain box ready for you to wrap (http://www.etsy.com/your/listings/79301138).

Initials and birth date can be added on the soles at no extra charge. Special orders are welcome. Please email me to work out the details.

My husband and I have lived in VT., NYC, St. Louis, Chicago, Portland, ME, Savannah, GA, Starkville, MS, Albuquerque, Minneapolis, Lafayette, LA and Starkville, MS again (current). While fun and getting really good at packing, the one thing I never did was become "professional."

Upon graduating from college 40 years ago with a BFA from a small college in VT, I was shocked that not one person in Manhattan wanted to hire me as an in-house painter of 3' x 3,' conceptual, black and white landscapes. Reality and business, I found, are tough! Equally, if you do the math, this was the '70's; I was, and remain, averse to authority.

My credentials include stints as a print production artist (NYC) and print designer for small corporations (St, Louis), residential and commercial garden designer (St Louis, Portland, ME, Savannah, GA), artisan bread baker (MS), and kitchen & bathroom designer (MS, again). All of these careers have been self-taught. Why abandon one for the next? We moved and my interests changed. Those were the good times! I also endured crummy office jobs when money was tight.

With Etsy, there is finally a vehicle for artistic production work that doesn't require warehouses of inventory. And, it's a portable career - my shop goes where I go!

Yours in art,
Syl V. Ya
