The first time I saw a gourd light was in Playa Del Carmen, Mexico. I was so enamored with the lights that I had to have one, even if that meant carrying it through an eight hour flight. That was five years ago and it has been hanging in my entry ever since.
I knew nothing about gourds when I bought my light but several years later decided to do a little research. I was fascinated with the history of gourds and modern day uses as an art medium. I decided to put my artistic side to work and try my luck at making my own gourd light. As I did my homework on gourds in the art community I found many exceptional examples of gourd art but was surprised to find very few examples of lamps crafted from the unique material.
