Why I became a knitter? Oh, I've always been one. You'll see: the problem is when you learn to believe that you can only be one thing, one aspect of yourself. As if we could be a one-dimension persona!
To work with the wool is a kind of heritage from my two grandmothers and through them, a long thread which connects me with many other women.
As a kid, I lived in different countries and as a teenager and adult, I had problems to understand simple things: to which motherland I belong to, where my roots were, how do we do to build an identity... by reading and writing I could explore beyond the borders of the daily life and find another realities. By becoming a mom and coming back to the basket of wool and needles, I found another way to express and to give. By becoming a mom and coming back to the basket of wool and needles, I found another way to express and to give. So among other me & myself, I'm a writer, a mother, a wife, a permanent foreigner (and comfortable with that), an explorer, a creator and yes, a knitter. Every time I take the needles, I feel my grandmothers with me and with them, my legacy, my roots, part of my identity reaching me in the simple gesture of hold the hook and make the wool thread start to dance.
