When I was a little girl, I spent my summers with my cousins at my grandparents' beach house. We would spend hours in the ocean and along the shore. We would collect snails, sea glass, and sea shells. Our grandmother taught us how to make jewelry with a string and jingle shells. They were like gold necklaces shining on our bronzed skin.

In the breezy evenings, my cousins and I would hold hands and make a circle, dancing under the moonlight, on my grandparents' seawall. It was mystical, and it was our own.
