About

Like many of you, I have been captured by the spirit and beauty of Nature since childhood. The Deer Creek House refers to a place I lived out in the country, and represents a time when I felt particularly in touch with the natural world all around me. It was there that a childhood love of collecting rocks and other natural treasures grew up and merged with designing jewelry. People of all faiths, cultures, and times have adorned themselves with the elements of nature that surrounded them. We can carry a bit of the creations of nature along with us wherever we go.

I started offering my handmade jewelry for sale with the intention of making the naturally beautiful elements of the rock & mineral world available at an affordable price. While these creations of Nature hold their own beauty & meaning, I love to make some jewelry that is intentionally meaningful. I hope in the coming months to get back…

I hope in the coming months to get back to this focus, as I have many beautiful stones waiting to be worn as reminders or simply enjoyed.

I have a fondness for vintage settings, and whenever possible, try to use genuine vintage findings or reproductions struck from the original tools & dyes. I will use any metal or material, and any sort of nicely designed manufactured findings, as well as those I make myself. In any case, I try to represent my pieces as accurately as possible and price them accordingly. The natural brass components I use are sealed to prevent further aging and interaction with skin & the elements. Even so, to maintain their finish, please do not wear brass jewelry while swimming or showering.

Another fascination of mine through the years has been with timepieces ~ Pocket Watches and other sorts. Since a large portion of my shop has come to include these items, I wanted to say a word about them. Some of you may know that most watches these days are at least assembled in China ~ even those that are designed elsewhere. I am pleased to tell you that all the mechanical Pocket Watches I carry I purchase from an individual (in China) whose supplier is a family she knows from her village (also in China). They began a small home business, bringing together extended family to make the watches and run their business themselves. Helping to support female entrepeneurs and independent small business is a source of great satisfaction for me ~ knowing that these people work for themselves, in decent working conditions. I have experienced that it also leads to better quality control.

I also carry some Swiss Pocket Watches whenever I can find them, and eventually will be listing some Antique & Vintage watches.
