What really rocks my world? Nature! Color! Texture! Dimension! Movement! Anything I've never done before!
Mom tells me that at three I was always in trouble for getting filthy making Mud Pies with my best friend "Hunnel", (Helen to a three year old). This may relate more to my love of cooking, but certainly started a life long need to "get my hands in it". I fell in love with color when I got my first box of 64 crayons at about five years old. At around seven my Mom taught me to knit my first scarf and in came texture.
During my brief years as a stay at home Mom with my baby girls I loved knitting and sewing for them. As an avid reader I found that if someone could write about how to do something (with good pictures) I could figure it out so I am primarily self-taught. I learned smocking while my girls were little. I also took up crewel, embroidery, crochet and cross-stitch…

I also took up crewel, embroidery, crochet and cross-stitch.
When my girls were six and five life, as it often does, took a turn and I found myself needing to enter the world of "real jobs" to raise my girls alone. Now, I wish I could say I was a great success at this, but in actuality it was the beginning of a 17 year sojourn of trying to fit this "square peg" into a long string of proverbial "round holes".
When my two beautiful daughters were in high school I found the wonderful world of beads. Now, I'm not talking about big beads, but seed beads and the smaller the better. This quickly went from interest to inspiration, to love, to passion and finally to full fledged addiction. I was finally able to learn enough techniques from books to begin to design my own "stuff" and supplement my real job income. After winning a few awards that I am to this day really proud of I was able to begin to get accepted into some juried art shows and I discovered yet another passion, Travel. It was during this time that I met my life partner in creativity and crime, Bear, a Master Jeweler. I had a dream for years of inlaying bead work in fine silver and gold and he and I were the very first to launch that concept. Once my girls were in college Bear and I let go of my rented home in the Virginia Mountains, put everything in storage, bought a used motor home and and spent many wonderful years traveling this beautiful country of ours and doing Juried Art Shows selling our one-of-a-kind jewelry and gourd and pine needle baskets.
How, you must wonder does all this lead to Baby Couture? Bear and I share a second passion, gardening. Time came to come back home to Virginia and family and a home in the country with lots of ground to plant in. I had done some knitting for my oldest daughter, a fashion designer/photographer who supplemented her income designing photography props for Baby Photographers. She is so busy now in her photography career she no longer has time to design and knit and has been my angel in helping me launch Baby Couture. I add the "old" to her contemporary design style of "vintage".
I love the experience of co-creating with anyone I can share creative vision with as much as bringing my own dreams into reality.
I have already started to add some beads to items. I'll get them in there somewhere!!!
