Susan Marie's Profile

About

My name is Susan Marie the artist of The Dancing Dragon. I absolutely love to make beautiful things. Here at my shop you will find a collection of my original compositions as art prints, burned into wood, painted on hardboard and glass and strung on pins and beading wire.

My love for drawing began when I was just five years old when the artwork and stories of native and international folktales inspired me. Two of these sources are the films The Last Unicorn and The Dragon Boy. Often I will find myself reading old handed down folk tales for inspiration and for information on mythical beasts.

Although my steadfast love of drawing has been constant I has recently expanded my talents to include painting (acrylic, watercolor and oil), wood burning, jewelry making and hex sign art! I am constantly challenging myself to be able to create…

Favorite materials

Although I do find using drawing pencil sets useful I still prefer using my own kit of pencils, These are pencils that I casually come across that produce certain effects when I use them, Brand name pencils I enjoy using are Faber Castell, Charvos, Prismacolor and Empire Pencil

I am constantly challenging myself to be able to create the same sense of wonder and beauty I found when I was five in these new mediums.

As it is mentioned in our shop announcement I myself love to collect beautiful things. In fact growing up when I would clean my room my mom would say I was cleaning my "play pretties".

I earned a Minor in Art from my college where I studied drawing, painting, sculpture and metal working. My other degrees include a Major in Anthropology and another Minor in Museum Studies. I have been applying both of these fields to my art work that I sell on Etsy.

How can I do that? Are they really related? To me they naturally are. From an anthropological point of view I see that art fulfills a very human need. A need not only for expression, but for understanding and reflection. Art for me is a relaxing and exhilarative release of artistic energy. As part of my course study in museums I learned about how to properly care for art works. To me it is essential that I maintain a climate controlled acid free storage solution for my works until they are sold and can be given to the proud new owner. This way they reach you in their optimum condition.
