Stepped outside while ago, to give my dog Chrissy some left over rotisserie chicken. I noticed that a wasp was buzzing around the porch light over the landing and moved quickly to feed my dog. As I patted her on the the head, I heard the BZZZZT! BZZZZT! Way too close to my ear. Hurrying down the steps, I realized the BZZZZT! Stayed right with me. Then the sound grew as frantic as I was starting to feel and I knew that the wasp was now tangled in my long curls. The dance of terror that ensued probably started off resembling the more upbeat portion of the climatic Flash Dance scene, where Jennifer Beals auditions before the judging committee. It quickly escalated to my running around the car, the clothesline, around the circle drive, to what I am almost positive was the Benny Hill theme song playing in the background.

All that hair! All that screaming! All those gymnastics! All in honor of that one little wasp. Finally, the buzzing stopped. I checked for any witnesses, found none but my very unconcerned dog, and went back inside. I no sooner closed the door than I heard a spine chilling BZZZZT! I immediately began an encore performance of my earlier show. It all ended with me shaking the wasp out, stunning it with a swat from Hub's cap, then pummeling it with a peanut butter jar.

I live along the banks of the Dan River, with my husband and children. We have 6 kids in all, his, mine, and ours. Our farm still has many acres of uncut forest and we are blessed to have Nature at her finest, just outside our door.

Our property is located on a former location of the Saura Tribe of Native Americans. We love walking the fields after a heavy rain and discovering artifacts. We never dig for these items, as we prefer to let Mother Earth give up her secrets on her own terms. To be the first to hold an arrowhead or pottery shard for hundreds, even thousands, of years, is a feeling unlike any other.

I am an artist that expresses myself via many mediums... I taught myself to crochet as a young girl and fell, head over hook, into a love of all things creative. I crochet, paint, sew, decorate cakes and pastries, cook, bead, soap, re-purpose, and sew. I also have a love of photography and graphic design.
